Varsity Basketball Visits Baltimore To Play Mercy Schools

The Lady Mustangs when on the road to Baltimore to compete in the 1st Annual Sister of Mercy Tournament. Their first opponent the Lady Grizzlies, Mercy jumped out to an early lead. Meghan Andersen accounted for 7 of the teams 14 first half points. Mercy defense led by Morgan Wolf and Sammy Shea shut down the Lady Grizzlies’ offense. Isabella Coles went 4 for 6 at the free throw line and Jillian Orr drained 2 baskets – Mercy took a 12 point lead into the locker room. Kaitlin Anderson had the hot hand in the 3rd quarter netting 7 points, while Natalie Pacher and Claudia Valentine controlled the backboards. OLMA up 49-23 after 3 quarters. Brooke Vetter handled the point for the 4th quarter and scored 5 of her 8 points in the quarter. Mercy cruised to a 61-27 victory. Meghan Andersen led the team with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Brooke Vetter added 8 points, Kaitlin Anderson had 7 points and Natalie Pacher pulled down 10 rebounds.

In the final game of the Sister of Mercy tournament – OLMA battled Mercy High School of Baltimore. Both teams’ offenses struggled in the quarter. Natalie Pacher had the only 4 points for the Lady Mustangs. Points were hard to find again in the 2nd quarter but OLMA’s pressure defense made it difficult for their opponent to score too. Mercy trailed 14-8 at the break. Mercy HS found their rhythm in the 3rd quarter and outscored OLMA by 8 points. The Lady Mustangs finally got on track in the 4th led by Sammy Shea and Natalie Pacher. With 40 seconds left in the game Isabella Coles nailed a shot from the corner to pull within 1 point. OLMA’s defense held on the next possession and had 2 shots to win the game, but came up short. Great comeback effort!!! Natalie Pacher led the team with 11 points, Sammy Shea added 9 points and Meghan Andersen pulled down 13 rebounds.
